Vintage American Movie Dixie Ray: Hollywood Star (1982). In 1940s Los Angeles, private investigator Nick Popodopolis is hired by actress Dixie Ray. This movie is about private investigator Nick Popodopolis and his investigation into the disappearance of the husband of film star Dixie Ray. Besides Cameron Mitchell, all the actors in this movie were pretty much the hottest porn stars and starlets of that time. John Leslie puts in a lot of hard work as the protagonist’s private detective. The actresses (including Samantha Fox and Lisa De Leeuw) are quite vivacious. Director Anthony Spinelli does a masterful job of crafting a flavorsome 1940s period setting while keeping the engrossing story. The sets, costumes, and vintage automobiles are all quite impressively lavish. Finally, the convoluted script by Dean Rogers offers a few neat twists and turns.
